Goethe Goes for a Ride

Okay, here’s one of these TWIDDERS that render me cross-eyed.  Surely the famous Mr. von Goethe who shared this experience had a quick trip to the future in order to see himself.  Or . . . was it the future Mr. von G. coming back to the past???  What are your thoughts?  (See http://paranormal.about.com/od/Doppelgangers/a/doppelgangers.htm?nl=1.)

An 18th century literary celebrity by the age of 25, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) was a German writer, poet, and statesman.  Upon his death, he left a veritable library of written works—everything from epic poetry to over 10,000 letters and almost 3,000 botanical and anatomic drawings.  He also left an account of the following remarkable experience . . .

Goethe declared that one day he confronted his doppelganger while riding on the road to Drusenheim.  250px-Goethe_(Stieler_1828)Riding toward him was his exact double, but wearing a gray suit trimmed in gold.  Eight years later, von Goethe was again traveling on the same road, but in the opposite direction.  He then realized he was wearing the very gray suit trimmed in gold that he had seen on his double eight years earlier.
